{"id":531,"date":"2013-09-01T13:07:42","date_gmt":"2013-09-01T18:07:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/recipeforflavor.com\/?p=531"},"modified":"2014-05-04T08:51:45","modified_gmt":"2014-05-04T13:51:45","slug":"red-sauce-meatballs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/recipeforflavor.com\/?p=531","title":{"rendered":"Red Sauce &#038; Meatballs"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"easyrecipe\" data-rating=\"#rating#\">\t<link itemprop=\"image\" href=\"http:\/\/recipeforflavor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Red-Sauce-Meatballs-1024x680.jpg\" \/>\n<div class=\"item ERName\">Red Sauce &amp; Meatballs<\/div>\n<div class=\"ERClear\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"ERHead\">Author: <span class=\"author\">Derek Amato<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"ERHead\">Prep time: <time itemprop=\"prepTime\" datetime=\"PT1H\">1 hour<\/time><\/div>\n<div class=\"ERHead\">Cook time: <time itemprop=\"cookTime\" datetime=\"PT6H\">6 hours<\/time><\/div>\n<div class=\"ERHead\">Total time: <time itemprop=\"totalTime\" datetime=\"PT7H\">7 hours<\/time><\/div>\n<div class=\"ERHead\">Serves: <span class=\"yield\">10<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"ERIngredients\">\n<div class=\"ERIngredientsHeader\">Ingredients<\/div>\n<ul class=\"ingredients\">\n<li class=\"ERSeparator\">Sauce:<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1 med onion, diced<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">3 6 oz cans of tomato paste<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1 8 oz can of tomato sauce<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">2 12 oz cans of diced tomatoes w\/juice<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">5 cups of hot water<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1 tsp of minced garlic<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">3 tsp of salt<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1 tsp of garlic powder<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1\/2 tsp of black pepper<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">5 tsp of sugar<\/li>\n<li class=\"ERSeparator\">Meatballs:<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">2 lbs of lean ground beef<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1 lb of italian sausage<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1 med onion, diced<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1\/2 cup of milk<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">2 large eggs<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">2 tsp of oregano<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1\/4 tsp of salt<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1 tsp of garlic powder<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1 tsp of black pepper<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1\/2 cup of italian bread crumbs<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1\/2 cup of grated parmesan cheese<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ERInstructions\">\n<div class=\"ERInstructionsHeader\">Instructions<\/div>\n<div class=\"instructions\">\n<div class=\"ERSeparator\">Sauce:<\/div>\n<ol>\n<li class=\"instruction\">In a large pot sweat the onion with a little olive oil over low-medium heat for about 5 mins or until soft.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add the tomato sauce, paste, and diced tomatoes to the pot and stir for several mins.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Rinse out the tomato paste cans 2 1\/2 times each adding the water to the pot, stir for several more mins.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add the 5 cups of hot water and season with the garlic, garlic powder, and black pepper and stir to combine.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Bring to a boil and reduce to low stirring every 15-20 mins for the next 6 hours UNCOVERED.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">During the 6 hour cooking period alternate adding the sugar and salt one tsp at a time every 30 mins until it&#8217;s all added.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">After the sauce starts cooking begin preparing the meatballs.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div class=\"ERSeparator\">Meatballs:<\/div>\n<ol>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Place all ingredients in a large work bowl except the meats and mix creating a slurry.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add the meat and mix by squeezing, making sure not to overmix.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Roll the meatballs into ping pong sized balls, and lay them out on an ungreased pan and bake for 45-60 mins turning half way through or until the internal temperature reaches 170 degrees.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Once they are done strain off the fat and add them to the sauce and continue cooking until the 6 hours is up.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ERNutrition\"><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"ERNotesHeader\">Notes<\/div>\n<div class=\"ERNotes\">Serve over cooked pasta with grated parmesan cheese on top.
